# Overview
Sedric Roddan — later Venerate Sedric — was a philosopher and poet credited with authoring *[[Dialogues With the Ancients]]*, a foundational work central to Thalnoran literature. Sedric is considered one of the most revered and influential authors in history.
It is widely accepted that Sedric possessed no magical or extraordinary abilities of his own. Instead, he often relied on a retinue provided by one of many patrons he accrued during his travels. One of his most notable traveling companions was the archmage [[Odam]], who later became the subject of Sedric's second work, *Existence*.
## Works attributed to Sedric
Today, only *Dialogues with the Ancients* and *Existence* are associated with the name Sedric. In antiquity, a large number of other works were sometimes attributed to him, including the *Dawn Verses*, several epigrams, the *Great Transformation*, *On Magic*, the *Blood Tide Chronicles*, the *Ascent*, *True Nature*, the comic mini-epic *The Capture of the Goldwraith*, and the *Soul's Journey*. These claims are not considered authentic and were not universally accepted in the ancient world. As with the multitude of legends surrounding Sedric's life, they indicate little more than the centrality of Sedric to ancient Thalnoran culture.
