![[Dreamworld.png]] # Description The Dreamworld is a metaphysical plane of existence, thought to be woven from the slumbering thoughts of [[The Dreamer]]. It is a realm filled with vibrant colors, impossible landscapes, and creatures of pure imagination. In the Dreamworld, the laws of physics bend and break, time flows differently, and the very essence of magic permeates everything. It is also home to [[The Gates]]. This ethereal realm is traditionally associated with the [[Nocturnals]] - unpredictable and powerful beings who call it home. The Dreamworld is a tapestry of ever-changing environments, from lush forests with trees of crystal to vast oceans of liquid starlight. ## The Dreamer's Influence Many believe the Dreamworld to be a direct manifestation of The Dreamer's subconscious, speculating that as The Dreamer slumbers, His thoughts, memories, and imagination coalesce to form the ever-changing landscapes. This connection means that the Dreamworld is not a single, cohesive realm, but rather an infinite expanse of interconnected dreams, each one a pocket universe unto itself. ## Accessing the Dreamworld Most mortals experience the Dreamworld only in fragments during sleep, their minds briefly traveling its ethereal shores before retreating back to consciousness. However, some individuals - through innate talent, training, or sheer luck - can willfully enter the Dreamworld, exploring it with full awareness. ### From the mortal realm Tears in the fabric of reality can also provide physical access to the Dreamworld. These allow travelers to physically enter the realm of dreams. However, they often find themselves thrust into someone else's dream, seemingly at random. These dreams could be those of peasants in distant lands, long-dead kings, or even a beings from another plane of existence. ### Alchemical means Some skilled alchemists have been known to develop potions and elixirs that can induce a state of conscious dreaming. These concoctions are often dangerous and unpredictable, carrying the risk of addiction or permanent mental alteration. ### Dream Walking Certain individuals possess the innate ability to consciously enter the Dreamworld during sleep, allowing them to explore beyond their own dreams by visiting the dreams of others. This ability—called Dream Walking— is rare and often manifests in childhood. ## Dangers The allure of the Dreamworld is matched only by its perils. Those who linger too long risk having their physical bodies fall into a coma-like state, their minds losing their connection to reality. The danger of becoming trapped in the Dreamworld is very real, and rescuing such individuals often requires perilous expeditions into the depths of those dreams. Additionally, in shared dreams, some actions can have unforeseen consequences for all. A careless word or action might alter the entire dreamscape, potentially trapping everyone in a nightmare from which escape seems impossible. ## The Gates The Dreamworld is home to the [[The Gates]], mystical conduits of power that serve as a source of power for both mortals and non-mortals. Nine in total, these constructs form a hierarchical system of magical progression known as The Path. ## Inhabitants - [[Ytharis]], Herald of the Gods
