A day of renewal celebrated on the solstice, the shortest day of the year. Celebrants make a pile out of the things that they no longer want from the previous year—mementos of old relationships, worn-out clothes, broken or useless things they've been keeping for sentimental reasons. It's a day of releasing things that are holding them back, as well as a celebration of the coming year. Just as important, it is a day for feasting, with thick slices of meat traditionally roasted on sticks over the burning pile of junk.
